Water heaters
Hot water restored: tank water heaters repaired and replaced, gas and electric.
Water heater replacement
Water heaters come first on our own list of services. We size the new heater to the household, set it correctly in the garage, utility closet or attic where Tidewater homes tend to keep them, and take care of the details that decide how long it lasts: the relief valve and its drain line, the drain pan, venting on gas models and thermal expansion.
Not every water heater problem means a new water heater. We find what has failed, tell you what the repair costs and how much life the tank likely has left, and let you decide.
Slow sinks, backed-up tubs and main sewer stoppages cleared, and the cause found.
Drain cleaning
A drain that keeps clogging is telling you something: grease in a kitchen line, hair and soap in a tub, or a pipe that has sagged or rusted. We clear the stoppage and tell you plainly whether it is likely to come back.
When every drain in the house is slow or sewage comes up in the tub, the stoppage is in the main line. We clear it from the cleanout. If the blockage is on the city’s side of the line, we tell you to call the city first, because that repair should not come out of your pocket.
In low, flat country, pumps do what gravity cannot. We repair and replace them.
Sewage pumps
Where a bathroom sits below the sewer or the lot is too flat for gravity to do the work, a sewage pump lifts the waste. When it stops, everything stops. We diagnose pumps honestly: often the pump is fine and it is a float switch or a check valve that has failed.
Southern Virginia Beach, rural Chesapeake and plenty of irrigation systems across the region run on wells. We service the pumps and tanks that keep water moving, and the sump pumps that keep it out of crawl spaces.
Our Shepherd’s Guide listing is filed under water softening as well as plumbing. Softeners matter most on private wells, where iron and hardness stain fixtures and shorten the life of a water heater. Ask us what your water needs.
The parts of the plumbing you use every day, repaired or replaced properly.
Toilets
A running toilet can waste hundreds of gallons a day, and you pay for water and sewer on every one. We rebuild the tank parts, reset rocking toilets on a new seal, and install new toilets when the old one is past saving.
We replace failed disposals and install new ones with the drain and dishwasher connection done correctly, so the next thing to fail is not the pipe under the sink.
Leaks, failed pipe, gas line repairs and the plumbing behind a new bathroom.
Plumbing repairs
“Repairs” closes our own list of services, and it covers most of what a building’s plumbing will ever need: a leak under the house, a shut-off valve that no longer shuts off, a broken water line in the yard, an ice maker line that needs running.
A great deal of South Hampton Roads was built with pipe that has reached the end of its life: grey polybutylene in homes from the late 1970s to the mid-1990s, galvanized steel and cast iron in older Norfolk and Portsmouth houses. When a repair is no longer the honest answer, we replace the pipe.
The city’s permit records show the gas work we have done: repairing leaks the utility has red-tagged and capping lines that are no longer used. If you smell gas, leave the building and call your gas utility or 911 from outside before you call anyone else.
Virginia Beach permit records show our work on bathroom additions, relocated baths, laundry tubs and whole-house renovations. We rough in the new piping, see it through inspection, and set the fixtures when the walls are finished.
The same master plumber’s standard for shops, offices, churches and schools.
Commercial plumbing
We serve commercial clients alongside homes, and have for decades. A business cannot wait a week for a restroom or a water heater, and it needs the work documented. We keep both in mind.
Our advertisement says it in one line: “Senior Citizens, Churches & Christian Schools Discounts.” Church buildings sit quiet for days and then serve hundreds of people in a morning, which is hard on water heaters, restrooms and kitchen drains. We know how they are used.
It is the last line of our advertisement: “Senior Citizens, Churches & Christian Schools Discounts.” Tell the office when you call and we will apply it.
Burst pipe or leak: close the main water valve. It is usually where the water line enters the house, near the front hose bib, in the garage or beside the water heater. Then call (757) 495-4157.
Smell gas: leave the building and call your gas utility or 911 from outside. Do not try to find or fix it yourself.
